museum on ice-skating

schaatsmuseumThis museum on ice-skating possesses the world’s largest and most varied skates collection (from as early as the 9th century). It gives the complete story of the famous Frisian ‘Elfstedentocht’ (Eleven Cities Tour) over the years. The exposition includes an original skating workshop, an authentic ‘koek- en zopietent’ (a wooden, roofed stall with refreshments, especially hot chocolate) as well as antique sleighs. Videos are shown about the manufacture of skates and old film footage on former Eleven Cities Tours give you a good impression of this popular event.
